BRINGING THE ANCIENT ART OF EQUESTRIAN TRAINING INTO THE PRESENT DAY
INHAND.

What is inhand? It is performing all of the movements required of the horse under saddle on the ground. This is started in the cavesson and later in the bridle. This is also where the famous airs above ground is taught.

What Value does Inhand have?

Inhand Teaches.

-Safety, Respect and Discipline for the horse and handler
-Educates the horse of the movements we will later expect while being ridden.
-Teaches the rider what the movements are and what the horse needs to do
with it’s own body to perform what we have asked.
-Enables us to see if the horses are even able to execute the movements.
-It is to teach lightness of the aids, whip and bridle.

Also Inhand teaches the horse the use of the reins, whip, voice and body language aids that encourages the voluntary cooperation and allows the horse to develop his balance and confidence without the added complications of a rider’s weight.

The work Inhand also builds trust, obedience, balance, coordination (mental and physical) and also is an excellent way of supporting and complementing work under saddle and be especially helpful for riders striving the higher level movements for dressage competition.

All the dressage movements of competition such as:
    -Shoulders In
    -Counter Shoulders In
    -Travers
    -Renvers
    -Half Pass
    -Flying Changes
    -Pirouettes
    -Piaffe
    -Passage
and movements beyond what is asked at competition such as:
    -Spanish Walk
    -Airs Above Ground
    -Pesade
    -Levade
    -Corbette
    -Capriole
are achieved within the Inhand and Long Reining, and also then ridden.

With the teaching of Inhand you can also move to the lunge and depending on the horses natural personality go onto the long reining.

Lunging - Distance Education.

Lunging is not running around in lots of repetitive circles.  You can at the end of a rope still have your horse working with you, achieving all of the ridden transitions in a relaxed but crisp manner including reinback. Once the one rein lunging is refined with crisp transitions and good control of rhythms then you can move into two rein lunging, which is more preparation for riding. In the two rein lunge you can create all ridden transitions and movements such as turning, shoulders in, counter shoulders in, renver, traver, half pass, flying changes, canter pirouettes, piaffe, passage and spanish walk.

With this work the foundations are created to build the strength, balance and coordination that make the transition to riding so much easier for both horse and rider.  This is what has been the basis to successful partnerships between horse and rider for centuries.
