My name is Alison Parr. I have known Eleena Kennedy and have received Classical Dressage lessons from her for three years prior moving to the south island.
Her credentials are well documented, and she has had an enviable wealth of knowledgeable instructors from around the world, in many areas of equine training, management and riding. Her focus on Classical Dressage has developed from a culmination of thirty years of these influences, her own experiences teaching others and training dozens of horses. I first met Eleena while we were both attending a Marji Armstrong Classical Dressage Clinic and I was impressed by the beautiful way that Eleena rode and how advanced she was with her own horse.
Marji Armstrong’s training programme has been inspirational for me, and Eleena’s lessons have helped me tremendously with my understanding of the process of the Classical system and the development of my own training and riding skills. Not only is Eleena conversant with the psychological side of the training, but she also has an almost encyclopaedic knowledge of the physical effects on the horses’ skeletal system, musculature and joint workings. She is able to impart that knowledge in a clear and concise way so that her pupils receive lessons with full explanations about not only how the exercises work, but also why. Her teaching style is wonderfully positive and her pupils receive praise for their achievements, but more importantly go home with the enthusiasm to keep challenging themselves.
After a lifetime of riding horses, and being frustrated by the New Zealand Pony Club system, and trainers here who operate largely under the German training scale, I am thrilled to find I have progressed more in three years under Marji and Eleena than I had in all the years before combined. Thanks to them, fantastic things like flying changes, piaffe and passage are now attainable. Before I started Classical training I would not have thought them possible.
The passionate way that Eleena approaches her subject is infectious, and the obvious joy she gets from working with horses and her love for them will inspire anyone. I cannot recommend or endorse her enough.
